Oh I wish I could hug you now
2024, Cotton and ceramics
Oh, I wish I could hug you now is a tactile timeline of my friendship with C., which began on a video chat and remained in the virtual space forover a year. Framed by a ceramic vessel, the piece holds a woven cotton band, where the length of each section corresponds to the duration of a phone call and ceramic beads mark the time between. These materialized memories invite viewers to trace the story of our connection with their own hands.
Rememory AI
2022, Porcelain
Every AI system relies on a dataset as its foundation, and potential errors may occur and propagate at any stage between collection and implementation. Porcelain’s inherent memory serves as a metaphor for the lasting imprint of every action taken when working with data. The vessels symbolize the importance of handling data with care and emphasize how digital issues can cause tangible consequences in the physical world.
BODIE:S
2021, Tactile interactive installation
The interactive installation BODIE:S addresses the significant underrepresentation of different body shapes and identities. With each pull, a unique pictogram is generated from basic geometric shapes, displayed on a screen and printed on sticker paper. The installation is wrapped in hand-made ceramic tiles with bodies as relief, making the discourse tactile to a wider audience. BODIE:S encourages active participation in determining the labeling of public spaces.
A Student's Perspective
2021, Embroidery data installation
A Student’s Perspective captures my university experience during the pandemic. It visualizes semesters shaped by unprecedented circumstances. From countless virtual classes to prolonged meetings due to technical issues, the hours spent on Zoom, unanswered forum questions, and the distances walked. Amidst these mundane details, sudden events grew into dark mountains, overshadowing the picture. By addressing personal events, the installation invites reflection on seldom colorful, yet meaningful perspectives.
Cycles and Stains
2019, Embroidery on cotton
The blanket is embroidered with twelve cycles, consisting of the respective basal temperatures. Title and color choice reference the marks left on my bedding each month and the auxiliary lines mark the start of an infertile phase. Axes are an essential part of every scientific chart. Here, their conscious omissions does not interfere with the results, thereby questioning familiar reference systems and self-determined contraception methods.
a = 10^-4
2019, Wire and lace paper
In solid-state physics, determining the arrangement of atoms in a crystal, defined by its lattice and basis, provides insight into the material properties. Even the slightest change may significantly impact the material’s overall behavior, instilling a sense of fragility to an otherwise rigid concept. Ever since I became aware of this, touching solid objects continues to amaze me.
Free Minutes
2019, Ceramics
The shaping of the centimeter-sized clay stones started during a waiting phase and developed into a ritual: whenever a period of waiting occurred or my hands sought occupation while thinking, the elapsed time took shape and was stored in a transparent glass jar. Thus, the otherwise fleeting entity of time and the creative energy it holds is preserved in imperishable material and be reused at a later point. The past is available for free use.
