A Student's Perspective

Embroidery data art, 2021

Part of the embroidered fabric

Titled A Student's Perspective, the embroidery data-art piece offers a nuanced portrayal of the tumultuous first year experienced by university students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Its objective is to encapsulate the essence of semesters profoundly impacted by the prevailing circumstances: from tangible metrics like the number of days devoid of on-campus classes and the persistent technical glitches prolonging seeminly endles online meetings,to unanswered forum queries, and the distances traversed on solitary walks. The artwork meticulously weaves these elements into its fabric, which hovers over the viewer like a cloud.

Nesting between these seemingly mundane data points are a few events that appeared suddenly and rapidly grew into menacing, dark mountains with diffuse borders that began overshadowing the remaining image.

By delving into personal anecdotes, the installation invites viewers to pause and engage in a dialogue about perspectives often overlooked—ones painted with muted hues yet rich in significance.
